Huskies to Open NCAA Play vs. Towson

STORRS, Conn. – The second-seeded UConn women's basketball team (31-2) begins NCAA Tournament play vs. No. 15 Towson (20-12) Friday at 6:30 p.m. in Gampel Pavilion. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2 and the UConn Sports Network from Learfield IMG College.
The Huskies are also hosting No. 7 Rutgers and No. 10 Buffalo in the First Round Friday at 4:30 p.m. UConn-Towson will begin approximately 30 minutes following that game.
The Huskies won the American Athletic Conference Tournament championship for the sixth straight year. Senior Napheesa Collier was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player after averaging 28.3 points and 13.0 rebounds per game.
UConn is competing in its 31st straight NCAA Tournament. The Huskies are 117-19 all-time in the tournament. UConn is a No. 2 seed this season for the fifth time in program history.
UConn is 1-0 all-time vs. Towson with the only meeting resulting in a 92-31 win for UConn on Nov. 30, 2011.
Towson is making its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance after winning the CAA Tournament championship. This season, Kionna Keter leads the Tigers with 17.3 points per game. Head coach Diane Richardson was named the CAA Coach of the Year.
