Huskies have successful debut Day One of UCF Invite

ORLANDO, Fla. - The UConn women's track and field team opened the outdoor portion of the 2019 campaign at the UCF Invite. Sophomore Taylor Woods paced the Huskies alongside freshman Emma Chee with the pair of first-place finish of the evening in the long jump as well as Pole Vault. Overall, UConn nabbed seven top-5 finishes on the day.
In the javelin throw, the Huskies had four student-athletes compete in the event with junior Chanell Botsis leading the way at 45.83m for a second place finish. Junior Thalia Ghalam followed suit taking third with a 42.98m effort. Rounding out the finishers for UConn was freshman Jamie Foster and sophomore Kelly Ward at 31.27m--seventh place and 21.09m--11th place respectively.Â
Megan Biscoglio took second in the Pole Vault with a finish of 3.55m. In another field event, the hammer throw, Botsis' 58.21m hurl landed her in second place.Â
The Huskies competed in the 1500 Meter Run with senior Haley Hasty contending with a time of 4:49.90 to finish in the top-5.Â
Day Two of the UCF Knight Invite will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the field with women's discus kicking things off.Â
