UConn tabs 10 top-5 finishes on Day Two of UCF Knights Invite

ORLANDO, Fla.—On the second and final day of the UCF Knights Invite, the UConn women's track and field team posted 10 top-5 finishes across the board to conclude their outdoor season opener. The meet welcomed student-athletes from Florida International, Florida Memorial, Florida Atlantic, Bethune-Cookman, Rowan, Albany, UConn, and host UCF.
In the field events, sophomore Kelly Ward set the tone for the Huskies with a 1.63m (5' 41/4") high jump to finish fifth overall. Freshman Jamie Foster vied for position in the shot put and hurled a 10.43m (34' 23/4") effort taking 13th place.
Back on the track, UConn took over the 3000 Meter Run finishing second, third, fourth, and fifth. Junior Danielle Jordan led the pack with a time of 10:34.10, senior Talia Staiger followed next at 10:35.40, then came sophomore Rachel Vick at 10:37.27, and senior Kelsey Swanson took up residence as the final finisher for the Huskies with a time of 10:43.69.
In the 100 Meter Hurdles, UConn placed a pair in the top-10 in junior Tia Strackman and sophomore Kelly Ward. The duo took home third—14.41 and ninth—16.23 respectively. Strackman also competed in the 400 Meter Hurdles and finished third with a time of 1:01.65.
The 400-Meter Dash was highlighted by the efforts of junior Kristina Cherrington and freshman Dejanee Parms. The pair took home silver and bronze for their finishes of second—55.67 and third—57.05. Freshman Shanelle Colmon finished in the top-10 with a time of 57.18 for a sixth place finish. Senior Kat Surin and Colmon took on the other student-athletes in the 200-Meter Dash with finishes of ninth—24.15 and 14th—24.76, respectively.
The mid-distance event, the 800 Meter Run, the Huskies placed two in the event. Kelsey Swanson placed sixth at 2:17.11 in addition to sophomore Allie Alsup's 14th place finish at 2:26. 65.
Parms, Cherrington, Surin, and Colmon made up the 4x400 Meter Relay team for UConn. They finished second with a time of 3:45.43.
