UConn concludes weekend series against UCF

ORLANDO, Fla—The UConn softball team (9-16, 0-3 AAC) wrapped up their opening American Athletic Conference weekend series against the UCF Knights (23-9, 3-0) in an 11:00 a.m. match up.
Both teams were scoreless until the Huskies opened up the offense in the top of the sixth. Ashley Esty opened the half inning with a single through the left side. Briana Marcelino's sacrifice bunt moved Esty to second. Carli Cutler followed with a single up the middle and advanced to second on a throwing error by the shortstop, scoring Esty.
However, the Knights mounted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh stringing together a series of singles to score twice.
Marybeth Olson (5-6) led the UConn defense through 6.1 innings with several strikeouts through 26 batters.
Esty extended her hitting streak to nine games, her and the team's longest of the season.
The Huskies are back in action on Wednesday, March 27t. UConn's home opener comes against UMass-Lowell with first-pitch at 3:00 p.m.
