UConn Finishes Third At Ft. Lauderdale Intercollegiate

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The UConn golf team placed two players in the Top 10 and four players among the Top 20 as it notched its fifth top three finish in six events this year, grabbing a tie for third place in the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate tournament, which concluded Tuesday at the Foreth Lauderdale Country Club.
The Huskies shot an aggregate 1-over 288-286-291=865, tying VCU for third, just two strokes behind second-place Florida Gulf Coast University (863). USF captured the team championship with a 24-under 840 to top the 12-team field.
UConn seniors Jimmy Hervol (Hopkinton, Mass.) and Nick Harrington (Chaplin, Conn.) led the UConn effort, tying for eighth place – the fifth Top 10 finish for Hervol this year and the second for Harrington.
Hervol shot a 1-under 70-70-75=215, his 11th and 12th rounds of par or better this year, upping his career total to 54. He has a career total of 1 8 Top 10 finishes.
Harrington continued his strong play in the spring portion of UConn's schedule, shooting 72-73-70=215, upping his par-or-better rounds to eight this year, and 26 during his career.
Also for the Huskies, redshirt junior Drake Hull (Rutland, Vt.) and junior Tim Umphrey (Northborough, Mass.) tied for 20th place, each shooting a 2-over 218.
Hull's 74-73-71=218 gives him five Top 20 finishes this year and 11 rounds of par-or better. Umphrey's 72-71-75=218 was his second Top 20 and added his fourth round of par-or-better.
Rounding out the UConn team contingent was senior Nabeel Khan (Westerville, Ohio), who tied for 26th place with a 5-over, 74-72-75=221, which included his fourth round of par-or-better this season.
Playing as individuals, UConn sophomore Jack Boulger (Walpole, Mass.) shot an 8-over 76-75-73=224 to tie for 37th place, while redshirt sophomore Chandler Morris (Hobe Sound, Fla.) shot a 9-over 77-73-75=225 to tie for 41st place in the 75-player field.
The Huskies will have a few weeks off before continuing their spring schedule on March 29-31, when they travel to Boca Raton, Fla., to compete in the FAU Spring Championship at the Osprey Point Golf Course.
