STORRS, Conn. – The UConn baseball team returns to American Athletic Conference action with a three-game series against Memphis. The Huskies (21-12, 5-4) are tied for third place as they play their first full series at J.O. Christian Field.
History vs. Memphis... The Huskies are 15-6 all-time against Memphis in a series that began in 1999. The Huskies won two-of-three in Memphis last season behind splendid starts from Mason Feole and Jeff Kersten.
The last time the Tigers visited Storrs, in 2017, UConn swept the series to move to 6-0 in The American. It was the first time since 1976 that the Huskies had started a conference season with a 6-0 mark.
Nuce Is Loose... Anthony Nucerino is heating up at the plate for the Huskies with a .500 AVG (12-24) in his last seven games. The UConn outfielder has recorded five multi-hit games during the stretch and raised his average from .167 to .341.
Nucerino began the season as the Huskies starting right fielder but a hamstring injured kept him out for a month. He played on Opening Day vs. No. 4 Louisville (Feb. 15) and then was unable to play until March 15 vs. Michigan State.
[Lang] In There... Junior David Langer has started to see his name in the lineup consistently with seven starts in the last eight games. The Berkeley, Calif. native has taken advantage by hitting safely in six of the seven games.
Langer has recorded two doubles and hit his first home run as a Husky against Cincinnati to help lead UConn to a 5-1 win against the Bearcats. His average continues to rise during this stretch, going from .100 to .185.
Taking What They Give You … Sophomore Christian Fedko has had a knack for the big hit and finding a way on base during his second season in Storrs.
The Gibsonia, Pa. native ranks first in The American and 14th in the country with 33 walks on the year. The total is already more than any Husky during the 2018 (30) and 2017 seasons (27).
He walked just 11 times during his freshman campaign and the more disciplined approach has led to uptick in offensive numbers, as well. He is on pace to set career-highs in AVG, runs, doubles, triples, home runs and RBIs.
