Second Straight Honor For UConn Golfers
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – UConn redshirt junior Drake Hull (Rutland, Vt.) has been named the American Athletic Conference Men's Golf Player of the Week following his individual victory in last weekend's Rutherford Intercollegiate tournament, the league announced today.
The announcement gives the UConn golf team back-to-back Player of the Week honors after senior Jimmy Hervol (Hopkinton, Mass.) won the conference award last week. They mark the final two weekly awards of the 2018-19 season before the league teams head for AAC Championship competition on April 21-23 at the Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, Fla.
Hull won his first collegiate tournament with three straight sub-par rounds (5-under 70-70-68=208) to top a 78-player field at the Penn State Blue Course in State College, Pa. He broke out of a four-way tie for third place on the final day of the tournament with a 3-under 68 to win the event by one stroke. It was his fifth sub-70 round of the season and the ninth of his college career. His 208 matched the lowest tourney score of his career and was his third Top 10 and sixth Top 20 finish this season.
Hull's performance led the Huskies to a fourth-place finish, their sixth Top Five finish of the year.
