STORRS, Conn.—The UConn (16-27, 4-11 AAC) softball team played a tremendous game against USF (35-15, 13-2 AAC) in the series finale. The Huskies contended with the No.1 Bulls in the American Athletic Conference in a one-run decision on afternoon.
After facing one another twice in one day, both teams had seen all they need to from one another when it came to this third and final game. Jill Stockley (1-8) returned to the circle to lead the UConn defense through a very windy and overcast match up. Stockley tossed 3.1 innings only walking four batters; she was relieved down the stretch by Marybeth Olson who pitched the remaining 3.2 innings.
The UConn defense has been on a terror lately, getting any baserunner out that tries to steal on catcher Devon Casazza's watch. Today Kelli Bates and Casazza teamed up for an old-fashioned 7-2 double play on a fly out.

The lone run on the day came on a fielding error, which allowed a runner to advance to third and another to cross home plate for USF in the opening inning. The Bulls only posted two hits on the afternoon, with the Huskies able to nab one more than their opponent.
Reese Guevarra would see to it that her team got a hit on the board. Her single to right field in the bottom of the third, did just that. In the bottom of the sixth, Bates started the hitting off with a double to left center.

A batter later, Briana Marcelino smacked a double just so down the left field line that Bates was able to shift to third and then took off for home. However, she would be called out at home plate on a throw from deep left field directly into the catcher's glove.
The Huskies will take on the Pirates of ECU in a weekend conference series beginning on Friday, April 26t in Greenville, N.C.
