Four Newcomers Set to Join Women's Tennis this Fall

STORRS, Conn. – UConn director of tennis and head women's coach Glenn Marshall announced the Huskies' incoming class for the fall of 2019. UConn will welcome in their newest Huskies in student-athletes Kyra Foster (Fort Wayne, Ind.), Caroline Cook (Ann Arbor, Mich.), Doga Selen Takunyaci (Istanbul, Turkey) and Denise Lai (Setauket, N.Y.) for the 2019-20 season.
Kyra Foster – IMG Bollettieri Tennis Academy / Fort Wayne, Ind.
- Has spent her junior and senior years training at IMG Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Bradenton, FL
- Won the doubles championship and was a singles semi-finalist at II Copa Mangulina ITF Dominican Republic
- Was a singles and doubles semi-finalist at Copa Palmas del Caribe ITF Puerto Rico
- Was a doubles finalist at the Bermuda ITF Junior Open
- Off the court, she is a member of the National Honor Society
- Named the recipient of the Female Athletic and Personal Development Award at IMG Academy
- Named to the National Student Leadership Conference Medical Exposure Program at Northwestern University
Caroline Cook – Gomez Tennis Academy / Ann Arbor, Mich.
- She has trained at Gomez Tennis Academy in Naples, Fla.
- Named a 4-Star recruit on TennisRecruiting Network
- Was the doubles champion at the ITF Colombia G5
- A singles semifinalist and doubles finalist ITF UAE G5
- A singles finalist ITF Panama G5
Doga Selen Takunyaci – TED Istanbul College / Istanbul, Turkey
- Attends the TED Istanbul College
- She trains at GD Tennis Academy
- Named a member of the Turkish National Team Member
- Ranked the #11 singles player and #8 doubles player in Turkey
Denise Lai – Ward Melville H.S. / Setauket, N.Y.
- Plays for Ward Melville High School
- Named a three-time New York All-State Tennis player
- Elected a two-year team captain for Ward Melville High School Varsity Tennis
- Winner of the Jennifer Sherry USTA Sportsmanship Award
- A member of the Key Club Community Service Club
- Of the court, a member of the National Honor Society
