Hervol, Harrington Excel At Clemson Invitational
SALEM, S.C. – Sunday was a day of highlights for UConn senior golfers Jimmy Hervol and Nick Harrington on the final day of the Clemson Invitational at The Cliffs at Keowee Falls.
Hervol (Hopkinton, Mass.) shot the lowest round by a UConn player this year and equaled the lowest round of his college career with an 8-under par 64. That followed a 4-under 68 by Hervol in Saturday's second round, helping him to a total 10-under 74-68-64=206 and a tie for seventh place in the 81-player field. It is Hervol's lowest tournament total of the year and led to his sixth Top 10 finish of the year and the 19th of his career. The result also added to his career totals of 24 sub-70 rounds and 57 rounds of par or better. Hervol tied for the tournament lead in birdies with 20 and topped the field in Par 3 scoring, playing those holes in 4-under.
Harrington (Chaplin, Conn.), shot a final-round, 2-under 70, highlighted by his first collegiate hole-in-one. The UConn senior aced Hole No. 5, a 192-yard Par 3. It was one of two eagles in the tournament for Harrington, who shot a 4-under 72-70-70=212 to tie for 22nd place. The result hikes Harrington's career total of par-or-better rounds to 32.
The two seniors helped UConn rally during the final two days of the tournament to post an aggregate 11-under 295-279-279=853 to finish sixth in the15-team field. Georgia Teach won the team championship with an impressive 52-under 812. UConn has finished sixth or better in seven of nine events this year.
Also for the Huskies, redshirt junior Drake Hull (Rutland, Vt.) finished in a tie for 33rd place with a 1-over 72-73-72=217, upping his par-or-better round total for the year to 16. It will be the final event for the Huskies before they compete in the American Athletic Conference Championship on April 21-23 at the Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, Fla.
