Rowing Shows Great Competitiveness at Lake Quinsigamond

WORCESTER, Mass. – UConn women's rowing competed against Boston College and Holy Cross on Sunday morning at Lake Quinsigamond, earning four second-place finishes while narrowly missing out on the Irving-Christensen Cup.
The Huskies, after being idle for a week, finished less than five seconds behind the Boston College boats in all four races. UConn placed less than one second behind the Eagles in the Varsity 8+, the race that decides the winners of the Cup.
"I am very pleased with the efforts of all of our boats today," said 22nd-year head coach Jennifer Sanford. "Each boat showed a strong fight, and although we came up short from a win, I applaud the execution of the race plan from everybody today. Several races came down to the wire."
"As much as it's frustrating to be on the losing side of a less-than-a-second margin, we can definitely build upon today's pieces to get faster this week."
UConn's next regatta is next weekend (April 13-14), as the Huskies get set to race in the Knecht Cup on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J.
"We will be racing BC and Holy Cross again at the Knecht Cup, so it will be good to see what type of speed we can pick up in practice this week before facing them next weekend."
