BSB Opens NCAA Tournament Against Nebraska

OKLAHOMA CITY - The UConn baseball team begins its Road to Omaha against the University of Nebraska in the Oklahoma City Regional on Friday, May 31 at 1 p.m. ET. The game will be streamed on ESPN3 and heard on 97.9 ESPN Hartford and iHeartradio.com with Mike Crispino and Chris Jones on the call.
UConn in NCAA's...UConn plays in its 21st NCAA Tournament in program history and sixth tournament since 2010. The Huskies earned its fifth at-large bid and fourth this decade. The Huskies reached the Regional Final last season in the Conway Regional against Washington. UConn defeated LIU Brooklyn and host, Coastal Carolina, before being eliminated by the West Coast Huskies.
John Toppa and CJ Dandeneau join a short list of UConn players to play in their third NCAA Tournament. The duo has played in the 2016 Gainesville Regional and 2018 Conway Regional.
UConn is 31-41 overall in the NCAA Tournament and have at least won a game in each of its last five appearances. The Huskies advanced to their first Super Regional in 2011. The program has reached the College World Series on five occasions with the last trip coming in 1979.
History vs. NCAA Opponents... The Huskies have faced off with the Cornhuskers once in program history. The previous meeting also occurred in the NCAA Tournament. UConn defeated Nebraska 15-0 in the 1979 NCAA District Playoffs. The Huskies are 5-1 against Big Ten opponents this season with wins against Michigan State and Illinois.
UConn is 0-3 all-time against Oklahoma State with the first meeting coming in the 1993 Midwest Regionals. Head coach Jim Penders and assistant coach Chris Podeszwa were both on the team that played the Cowboys in Stillwater, Okla.
The Huskies and Crimson first played each other in 1923. UConn is 4-7 in the all-time series. In 1972, the Huskies beat Harvard in back-to-back games in the NCAA District I Playoff to advance to the College World Series. UConn last played Harvard in 2014, and picked up a 9-4 victory against the Crimson in Winter Haven, Fla.
