Three Huskies Earn All-Region Honors

STORRS, Conn. - Jake Wallace, Pat Winkel and Mike Woodworth all received ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I All-Region honors on Wednesday afternoon. Wallace landed on the First Team while Winkel and Woodworth earned Second Team honors.
The accolades continue to roll in for Wallace, the UConn closer received Baseball America First Team All-America honors earlier this week. Wallace had a historic season on the mound for the Huskies by recording a 0.64 ERA in 42.0 innings. The 0.64 ERA ranks fifth-lowest in single-season history. The Metheun, Mass native tied a single-season record with 16 saves, tying his former teammate and potential future teammate in the Rockies organization, P.J. Poulin (2018). Wallace has been named a First Team All-New England and All-Conference member.
The right hander is also one of five pitchers up for National Pitcher of the Year and is one of six finalists for NCBWA Stopper of the Year award that is given to the top reliever in college baseball. Wallace also earned Second Team All-American status from Collegiate Baseball. By securing first team honors, Wallace is eligible for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors.
Pat Winkel put together a solid freshman season despite battling injuring during the season. The UConn catcher played in 49 games and hit .318 with eight doubles and team-leading seven home runs. The Orange, Conn. native racked up 38 RBI's and scored 19 runs.
Mike Woodworth put together a superb senior season that led to him being drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 29th round. The Alameda, Calif. native racked up 143 hits, nine home runs and 90 runs scored. Woodworth landed on the All-Conference second team after hitting .325 with 10 doubles, three triples, five home runs and drove in 42.
ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First Team selections are nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. The ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I All-Americans will be announced on Saturday, June 15.
The finalists for the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I Gold Glove Team will be announced via Twitter on Monday, June 17, and the Gold Glove winners in all divisions will be announced on Wednesday, June 19. In all divisions, ABCA/Rawlings National Pitchers of the Year will be announced on Monday, June 24, followed by ABCA/Rawlings National Players of the Year on Wednesday, June 26.
The ABCA, founded in 1945, is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 11,000 members represent all 50 states and 23 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include eight divisions: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School and Youth. The 76th annual ABCA Convention will be held Jan. 2-5, 2020 in Nashville, Tennessee.
