STORRS, Conn.—The UConn volleyball team is back on campus and have begun their preseason practice sessions, in addition to some team activities. Just 24 hours post report date, the Huskies have started to prep for the 2019 season.
UConn is a relatively young squad this year and before their exhibition match versus the University of Rhode Island on Saturday, August 24th we'd like to introduce you to a couple of newcomers to the program.
Below is the first preseason blog, written by the freshmen class—Jasmine Davis, Mia Ruffolo, Alexandria Garland, Aset Baker-Falealili, and Madi Whitmire.
Hey Husky fans, your five freshmen girls here—Jasmine, Mia, Allie, Aset, and Madi.
We are heading into the first practice of the preseason, and are totally pumped for it! For the past four weeks we have been a little sore from the summer training with Coach D, but it has been an absolute blast! Along with strength and conditioning, we all took one summer course. We all agree that these classes have been interesting for us and we see many differences from high school already, now being in the college student-athlete environment. However, the summer wasn't all just about strength and conditioning or classes, but getting to spend time with the veterans on the team and feel a part of something bigger than ourselves. That feeling was truly magical for us. The time we got to spend with each other in between lifts, class, Netflix and chilling, made our bond as freshmen with the returners stronger.
Going into the preseason, we feel confident that this year is going to be our year to do something absolutely great! Also, we feel our team's chemistry will be even stronger especially after our meetings with Dr. Tiff. There are so many different personalities on our team that mesh into one when we are all on the court, that as a whole is what makes us dangerous.
We are all excited to see you guys in the bleachers cheering on UConn volleyball! Can't wait for preseason and for the season to start. Wish us good luck and hope to see your there Husky fans!
Love,
'The freshmen'
