Huskies Blank Quinnipiac, 3-0, in Exhibition Opener

HAMDEN, Conn. - The UConn women's soccer team opened its 2019 campaign with a 3-0 victory against Quinnipiac at the Quinnipiac Soccer Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
The Huskies and Bobcats played three, 30-minute sessions in their first game of the preseason.
UConn scored its first goal of the year late in the first period on a beautiful aerial pass from Pato Jerzak. The Swede's service found senior Regan Schiappa and the Windermere, Fla. native drilled it into the back of the net.
The score remained the 1-0 until the Huskies tacked on a pair of goals in the third period. Newcomer Duda Santin lobbed a shot past the keeper to record her first goal of the preseason. The Brazilian joins UConn after spending a year at Monroe College.
Visi Rizos capped the scoring with a hustle play late in the match. With the Huskies pressuring the Bobcats defense, Rizos scooped up a turnover and cashed in her first goal of the preseason.
UConn was able to play 25 players in tune up for the regular season, which begins on Thursday, Aug. 22 at Providence.
The Huskies wrap up exhibition play with a match at UMass on Sunday, Aug. 18 at 1 p.m.
