No. 4 UConn Rallies to Defeat No. 21 Stanford, 3-2

STANFORD, Calif. – Senior Antonia Tiedtke scored in the fourth quarter to help the fourth-ranked UConn field hockey team (2-0) complete a 3-2 comeback win over No. 21 Stanford (0-2) Sunday.
Tiedkte inserted a penalty corner chance eight minutes into the last quarter, picked up a rebounded shot off the crossbar and found the back of the cage. It was the first time the Huskies led in the game.
Stanford scored the first two goals of the game at 6:19 and 16:39. Senior Svea Boker responded 27 seconds after the second goal as UConn went into halftime down 2-1.
Junior Jessica Dembrowski tied the game at 40:16 off a corner with assists to sophomore Abby Gooderham and Tiedkte.
Redshirt sophomore Cheynne Sprecher finished the game with four saves, including one with under 10 minutes remaining in the game.
The Huskies led 20-6 in shots, including 12-6 in shots on goal. UConn also led 8-2 in penalty corners.
The Huskies play their first home game next Friday vs. No. 19 Rutgers at 6 p.m. at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex. UConn finishes the weekend vs. No. 6 Harvard Sunday at 1 p.m. in Connecticut's Alumni Game.
