STORRS, Conn. - Former UConn ace Anthony Kay ('16) has been called up to the Toronto Blue Jays after spending finishing the minor league season at Triple-A Buffalo.
Kay will become the seventh Husky since 2012 to make his Major League debut (Mike Olt, George Springer, Matt Barnes, Nick Ahmed, Scott Oberg and John Andreoli).Â
The Stony Brook, N.Y. native left the UConn program as the all-time strikeout leader with 263 strikeouts before Tim Cate (2nd Round, Nationals) and Mason Feole(11th Round, Padres) both passed him. The left-hander racked up 22 wins including a memorable 2016 American Athletic Conference Championship performance that won UConn its first American Conference Championships against Houston. Kay was a 2016 Louisville Slugger All-American and earned American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year in the same season.Â
He also pitched for the USA Collegiate National team during the summer of 2015 and was a First Round pick by the New York Mets in the 2016 MLB Draft.
Kay will join the team later this week in Tampa. Stay tuned for updates on Kay's debut, along with all of other former Huskies in pro ball on twitter, @UConnBSB.
