UConn Golfers Nab Top 10 Finish In Opener

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The UConn men's golf team shot an outstanding 4-over 292 as a team in the final round Sunday to climb up the leaderboard and capture a Top 10 finish at the season-opening Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational, hosted by Colgate University.
The Huskies' 54-hole score of 28-over 303-297-292=892 was good enough for seventh place in the 18-team field, which played at the Seven Oaks Golf Club in Hamilton, N.Y. UConn's 292 was the second-best team score of the day Sunday. Cornell captured the team title with a 16-over 880.
UConn's senior duo of Drake Hull and Tim Umphrey led the Huskies as each shot a 4-over 220 to finish in a tie for 12th place in the 96-player field. Hull (Rutland, Vt.), who had 10 birdies in the tournament, fired a 73-75-72=220, while Umphrey (Northborough, Mass.) shot a 74-71-75=220.
UConn sophomore Jared Nelson (Rutland, Vt.) shot UConn's best round of the tournament on Sunday, a 2-under 70, to finish in a tie for 32nd place with a 10-over 79-77-70=226.
Also for the Huskies, junior Jack Boulger (Walpole, Mass.) shot a 13-over 77-76-76=229 and redshirt junior Chandler Morris (Hobe Sound, Fla.) shot a 13-over 79-75-75=229 to be part of a tie for 52nd place.
Playing as an individual, junior Finn Boynton (Milford, Conn.) finished in a tie for 63rd place with a 15-over 75-76-80=231.
UConn will continue the fall portion of its schedule on Sept. 16-17, competing in the Hartford Hawks Invitational at Bull's Bridge Golf Club in South Kent, Conn.
