STORRS, Conn. – Senior forward Catherine Crawley has been selected as one of 13 nominees for the 2020 Hockey Humanitarian Award, as announced by the Hockey Humanitarian Award Foundation Monday afternoon. The group of nominees includes nine seniors, three juniors and one sophomore, along with nine male (4 Div. I) and four female (1 Div. I) candidates. The list includes seven forwards, three defenseman and three goaltenders.
The award, which is celebrating its 25th year, is presented annually to college hockey's finest citizen — a student-athlete who makes significant contributions not only to his or her team but also to the community-at-large through leadership in volunteerism – qualities that Crawley exemplifies.
Crawley garnered the 2019 UConn Female Community Outreach Athlete of the Year award after initiating several service projects for student-athletes to take part in throughout the academic year. A 2018 Recipient of the NCAA Hockey East Student-Athlete Award and UConn Babbidge Scholarship, Crawley has been a three-time Hockey East All-Academic Team selection and a two-time ACHA Division I All-American Scholar honoree.
Additionally, Crawley has been a mainstay on the Agriculture, Health & Natural Resources Dean's List since 2017, and has been named to the Director of Athletics Honor Roll in each term.
An instrumental part of the UConn women's hockey team, Crawley was selected as an alternate captain by her teammates ahead of the 2019-20 season. Through 22 games, the three-year letterwinner from Washingtonville, N.Y., has notched eight goals and dished out a team-high 12 assists to total 20 points – second highest on the team. For her career, Crawley has played in 126 career games thus far, amassing 28 goals and 44 assists for 72 points.
Finalists for the 2020 Hockey Humanitarian Award will be announced in February. The 2020 recipient will be honored in a ceremony on Friday, April 10th as part of the NCAA Men's Frozen Four weekend in Detroit, Michigan.
