STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's track and field team returns to action this weekend at the Sorlien Invitational hosted by the University of Rhode Island. The non-scoring meet will take place Saturday, January 18th at 11:00am at the Mackal Field House.
The Huskies are coming off of a second place finish last weekend at the Beantown Challenge at Harvard University with a total of 98 points. Director of cross country and track & field Greg Roy was pleased with the group's efforts and believes they will progress throughout the season.
"We are just trying to take the group that we have and progress them forward to be ready for the championship season," said Roy. "Short term, New York and New England's, and long term, [American] conference, and hopefully some NCAA."
"The women's program has really embraced what we are trying to and now it's just a matter of doing it. I thought they competed well last weekend, and we've got to continue to build depth for those kinds of meets. We've got a real good group and there's still work to be done, but the team is ready and embracing the process."
The Huskies will have athletes competing in 14 events at the Sorlien Invite, with many competing in multiple events. Along with the host Rams, UConn will compete against athletes from Assumption, MIT, Quinnipiac, Massachusetts, Southern Connecticut, and Stonehill.
