KINGSTON, R.I. – The UConn women's track and field team competed at the Sorlien Invitational at the University of Rhode Island on Saturday afternoon. The non-scoring meet was an opportunity for the Huskies to continue to progress and improve this season.
Sophomore Emma Chee set a new UConn school record in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.95 meters. Chee took first in the event with her record-breaking attempt.
"Emma had a really strong day in the pole vault, she's looking to break out there," said director of cross country and track & field Greg Roy. "She had a great day and continues to grow each meet."
Several Huskies had strong performances, and Roy was pleased to see the progression and growth of the athletes.
"Shanelle Colmon did an excellent job in the 400m, Elise O'Leary in her first collegiate 800, she's very versatile, she did a nice job getting second there. Mikyla Rodgers did a real good job in the weight throw, getting that win was great for her."
"Overall, we improved and we gave opportunities to a lot of kids today. We are all looking forward to next weekend in New York, that's going to be a great track meet. We accomplished some things today and we continue to progress through the season."
