NEW YORK, N.Y. – The UConn women's track and field team had another good team performance at day two of the Columbia Challenge on Saturday morning.
Day one of the competition saw sophomore Emma Chee grab third place in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.90 meters, just under her school-record attempt last weekend. Director of cross country and track & field Greg Roy was pleased again with Chee's efforts.
"The women really showed progress. They were a much better team today. Emma Chee is just developing into a rock solid competitor," said Roy. "She was right at her school-record today. She's growing immensely."
Several other Huskies had great performances. Junior Mia Nahom and senior Danielle Jordan both set new PR's in the 3k race, with Nahom shaving 12 seconds off of her personal best in the event.
Freshman Patricia Mroczkowski also had a great performance in the high jump, coming in fourth overall, which Roy was very pleased to see.
"Real nice performances from Mia and Danielle in the 3k, both with PR's. Patty stepped forward today as areal player for us in the high jump. She looked good and in a very big competition. Every week she's a little more engaged and more confident, so that was great to see. Mikyla Rodgers another person establishing herself. She got in today and competed really well there."
The Huskies hope to continue to progress through the indoor season as they look ahead to an exciting weekend at the New England Championships next week.
"Good weekend for the Huskies. The women are really starting to assert themselves and they have a huge meet next week. They haven't competed in New England's in a long time, the people that are in places to score are going to have to get it done. We are really looking forward to it."
