STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's basketball team, fresh off a 27-point victory in its season opener on Wednesday, quickly returns to the court to face the University of Hartford on Friday night, Nov. 27, at Gampel Pavilion. The game is set for an 8:05 p.m. tipoff and will be televised by CBS Sports Network.
The Huskies (1-0), shook off some early-game rust late in the first half on Wednesday, then steadily pulled away for a 102-75 final tally against Central Connecticut. Sophomore guard James Bouknight (Brooklyn, N.Y.) keyed the win with a 20-point, 8-rebound, 3-steals performance. It was the fourth 20-point performance of his career.
UConn had four other players score in double figures, starting with junior guard R.J. Cole (Union, N.J.), who had an impressive UConn debut with 17 points, 6 assists and 4 steals. Junior Brendan Adams (Baltimore, Md.) came off the bench to score 15, senior Tyler Polley (Miramar, Fla,) had 14, and senior Isaiah Whaley (Gastonia, N.C.) chipped in 12. Freshmen Andre Jackson (Amsterdam, N.Y.), with 6 assists and 5 rebounds, and Adama Sanogo (Bamako, Mali), with 8 points and 7 rebounds, also had an impressive opener.
Hartford, which had its opener at Merrimack canceled, returns six of its top seven scorers from a team that won 18 games last season and was one win away from an NCAA Tournament berth when the season stopped. The Hawks boast a veteran lineup that includes Hunter Marks (10.8 ppg, 6.1 rpg last year), Moses Flowers (10.4 ppg, 3.8 rpg), and Traci Carter (9.7 ppg, 4.9 apg), 2.5 spg).
UConn is 13-1 all-time against Hartford, which plays out of the America East Conference, but the teams have not met for 12 years. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
