CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The UConn men's hockey team scored a pair of third period goals to tie the game and force overtime at No. 2 nationally ranked Boston College but the Eagles came up with the game-winner in the extra session to remain unbeaten on the year.
BC's Marshall Warren put home a rebound at 3:13 in the overtime to move the Eagles to 5-0-0 on the season. The Huskies fell to 0-2-1 on the season. Under the new overtime format and rules in Hockey East this season, the Huskies still get one point in the standings with the overtime loss while BC claimed two points on the night.
UConn went to the third period facing a 3-1 deficit but for rallied with a power play goal from freshman John Spetz (Oak Ridge, N.J.) and a goal from junior Kale Howarth (Red Deer, Alberta) to send the game to overtime. With the new 3-on-3 overtime rules in place this season, Warren ended the game by putting in rebound off a Marc McLaughlin shot to end it.
The two teams played to a 1-1 first period with BC's Colby Amborsio scoring his fourth of the season and UConn's Marc Gatcomb (Wobrn, Mass.) scoring his first of the year. BC got two from Logan Hutsko in the second.
UConn junior goaltender Tomas Vomacka (Trutnov, Czech Republic) stopped 32 shots in the loss. BC rookie goaltender Henry Wilder made his first career start and got his first win, posting 30 saves.
1st Period:
The Eagles peppered UConn's Vomacka in the first period, outshooting the Huskies 20-7 in the first but saw the game tied, 1-1, into the first intermission. BC nabbed the game's first goal at the midway point, capitalizing on a UConn turnover at 9:50. BC's Ambrosio picked up a loose puck on the left circle dot and snapped a quick shot past Vomacka at the near post, his fourth of the year.
The Huskies knotted it up at 1-1 at the 17:09 thanks to some strong work from Kondelik on the forecheck. The junior busted up the BC clearing chance behind the net and sent a nice centering feed to Gatcomb in the slot who buried the wrister in the top-right corner for his first of the season.

UConn got their offense going in the second, flipping the shot chart on BC, putting 17 shots to 6 for the Eagles on the sheet. But it was BC who find the back of the net, twice off the stick of Hutsko in the period.
BC snagged the lead back at the 3:08 mark, converting on a 2-on-1 chance with Hutsko notching his second of the season. Nikita Nesterenko carried up the right wing and slid a nice feed to Hutsko who put a backhander just under Vomacka as he crashed the net.
The duo struck again at the 14:28 mark as Nesterenko passed up a shot in the lost to feed Hutsko at the right post who tipped it past Vomacka to make it 3-1.
3rd Period:
The Huskies continued to generate offensive chances into the third and it paid off with two goals to pull the game even. UConn got their first power play goal of the season as Spetz recorded his first career goal at the 2:04 mark. Junior Jonny Evans (North Delta, British Columbia) left the puck for Spetz at the high point and the freshmen feathered a wrister through some traffic to beat Wilder and get UConn to within 3-2.
