STORRS, Conn. - The UConn men's basketball team earned its first Big East win of the season   with a 82-61 victory over the DePaul Blue Demons Wednesday night at Gampel Pavilion.
UConn (4-1, 1-1 BE) had three players finish the game in double figures, led by Tyrese Martin who finished the evening with 22 points and 10 boards. James Bouknight dropped in 20 points to go with four rebounds and three assist and Josh Carlton added a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds as well. Darious Hall paced the Blue Demons (1-2, 0-2 BE) with 14 points and 8 rebounds.
The game got off to a slow start for both squads and the Huskies led by only a pair at the under-twelve media timeout. When play resumed, UConn put some distance between themselves and the visitors after making four of their ensuing five shots from the field.Â
Later on in the first, back-to-back strong finishes in the paint from Carlton followed triples from Martin and Brendan Adams and after leading by as many as 15 in the first half, UConn took a 41-27 advantage into the locker room.Â
The Huskies continued to attack and took complete control of the game following an 8-0 run early in the second, which was capped off by a pair of dazzling transition slams courtesy of Bouknight and Martin to give the home team a 23-point margin. DePaul was forced to call a timeout and the Huskies never looked back, cruising to the 82-61 dub.
