BOSTON, Mass. – The UConn men's track and field team closed out their 25th New England Indoor Championship on Saturday afternoon, putting together a dominating performance that led to a total of 217.50 points as a team.
The Huskies recorded four individual New England titles and 17 top-three finishes over the weekend on the way to their second-straight regional championship in the 22-team field. The Huskies were 87.5 points better than Northeastern in second place (130) and 103.5 points better than Rhode Island in third.
"We had a big win last week, and our guys were pretty great today," stated director of cross country and track & field Greg Roy. "Last year, we won this by 80 points and this year, we had a lot of kids doing really great things today and yesterday for us. Our guys were just great professionals this weekend, really proud of them. They competed really well and they did their jobs."
"Jordan (Torney) had a huge PR in the hurdles, had a great race. Just missed winning it, but still a great performance from him. Our Sprinters did a real nice job, Josiah (Thompson) keeps getting better all the time. We'll need him to have a big day for us at the conference championships.
"Wellington (Ventura) was pretty spectacular in the 500, it was really something else," said Roy. "Great job by Steve (Sutton) in the 800 as well, he held off some big players in that race. Danny Claxton was awesome in the high jump."
