Men's Golf Opens Spring Tourney Schedule At Loyola Intercollegiate

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The UConn men's golf team begins the spring tournament portion of its 2019-20 tournament schedule this weekend with its annual trip to the Loyola Intercollegiate, held at the Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz.
The tournament, hosted by Loyola Maryland, is a three-day, three-round event Saturday, Sunday and Monday at the Palm Valley North and South Courses. Besides the Huskies, the huge field includes Air Force, Bucknell, Drake, DePaul, Eastern Michigan, Hartford, Loyola Maryland, Loyola Marymount, Marshall, Missouri State, Murray State, Northern Illinois, Seton Hall, South Dakota, SIU-Edwardsville, UT-Martin, Xavier, and Arizona State (individuals only).
"That's a great field that we'll be competing against, and Palm Valley does a tremendous job running the tournament," UConn coach Dave Pezzino said. "We're excited to get our spring schedule started with a really good multi-day event."
UConn, which played a tune-up match against West Virginia on Feb. 2, will send a five-man team, plus an individual to the Loyola Tournament. Leading the Huskies' contingent will be redshirt senior Drake Hull (Rutland, Vt.) and sophomore Jared Nelson (Rutland, Vt.), who are currently tied for the team scoring lead at 73.4 strokes per round. Hull has one Top 10 and three Top 20 finishes this season, including a team-best fourth-place finish at the UConn Invitational at GreatHorse. Nelson has two Top 10 and two Top 20 finishes.
Completing the UConn lineup will be redshirt junior Chandler Morris (Hobe Sound, Fla.), averaging 75.1, junior Jack Boulger (Walpole, Mass.), averaging 75.7, and junior Finn Boynton (Milford, Conn.), averaging 77.8.
Junior Rodrigo Sanchez (Santo Domingo, D.R.), averaging 77.8, will compete as an individual in the event.
The Loyola Intercollegiate in the first of five spring tournament for the Huskies, leading up to the American Athletic Conference Championship, set for April 26-28, in Palm Harbor, Fla.
Following the Loyola Intercollegiate, UConn will play in the Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) Intercollegiate on March 2-3; in the Furman Intercollegiate in South Carolina on March 27-29; in its own UConn Intercollegiate on April 9-11 at Ellington Ridge Country Club; and in the Rutherford Intercollegiate on April 18-19 in State College, Pa.
