Wyatt Newpower Signs with AHL's Cleveland Monsters

STORRS, Conn. - UConn senior Wyatt Newpower (Hugo, Minn.) signed a contract with the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League (AHL). The Monsters are the top affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets of the NHL.
Newpower recently wrapped up his UConn career with a stellar senior season. The UConn captain was named to the Hockey East Second Team All-Stars and won the league's '47 Best Defensive Defenseman Award. He led all UConn defensemen in scoring with 22 points on three goals and 19 assists and on the defensive end, he was second on the club with 42 blocked shots. Among Hockey East defensemen, Newpower was tied for sixth in scoring. He ranked ninth in the conference in blocked shots, averaging 1.24 per game. He finished the season as a +23 skater, ranking him fifth among all Hockey East skaters and was tied for sixth nationally.
Newpower wrapped up his four-year stint in Storrs having appeared in 114 career games, scoring 47 points on 11 goals and 36 assists. Of his 11 career goals, six came on the power play. He blocked 165 total shots. He had 11 career multi-point games and just this season, recorded the longest point streak of his career at five-straight games.
