Huskies Fall to Temple in Season Opener, 3-1

PHILADELPHIA – The UConn volleyball team (0-1) won the first set but fell to Temple (2-0), in four sets (25-17, 23-25, 24-26, 19-25) in the Huskies' season opener Saturday.
Junior outside hitter Caylee Parker led the Huskies with 17 kills while hitting at a .343 clip. Sophomore outside hitter Jasmine Davis notched 10 kills. Sophomore libero Aset Baker-Falealili tied for the match lead with 25 digs.
Sophomore setter Madi Whitmire served five aces in the match.
The Huskies, who haven't played a match since Nov. 16, 2019, started strong, posting a 25-17 win in the first set and hitting .444. A 6-2 run put UConn ahead, 12-7. Parker had three later kills in the set and Allie Garland finished it off with a kill.
UConn was down 20-13 in the second set before rallying to within one, 23-22. Redshirt Genna Florig posted two kills and two block assists in the rally. Davis had a late kill but Temple was able to finish off the set, 25-23.
The third set featured 17 ties and seven lead changes as the teams were evenly matched and went to extra points. Tied 24-24, two straight UConn errors led to a 26-24 Temple win.
The fourth set was also evenly matched before five straight points ended the set in Temple's favor, 25-19.
The Huskies are back in action at Northeastern on Feb. 12.
