No. 18 FH Suffers Double OT Defeat vs. No. 20 UMass on Senior Day

STORRS, Conn. - The No. 18 UConn field hockey team (9-9, 5-1 BIG EAST) sufferend a double overtime loss against No. 20 UMass, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon afternoon at the George Sherman Family Sports Complex.
The Huskies celebrated their seven seniors; Jessica Dembrowski, Kourtney Kennedy, Lindsay Dickinson, Abby Gooderham, Frances Mirabile, Olivia Clarke and Cheyenne Sprecher prior to the match.
Dickinson made an immediate impact with her first goal of the season and fourth in her 72-game career. The Glen Mills, Pa. native teed up a shot on a penalty corner insert from Jessica Dembrowski that was set by Morgan Kaufman.
The Huskies dominated the majority of the match, outshooting UMass 24-7 and had 10-5 edge in penalty corners.Â
UConn had a few opportunities to break the game open but were unable to find the second tally. Dickinson had one opportunity hit the crossbar while Gooderham led the way with six total shots and three of them on goal.
Leading 1-0 with under 90 seconds to go in regulation, UMass pulled their goalie and earned a penalty corner that they capitalized on to even the game, 1-1, with 1:14 on the clock.
The game moved into overtime, the fourth of the season for the Huskies (1-3), and UConn had a great opportunity to end it.Â
Dembrowski created a turnover that led to a breakout and Sophia Ugo had a chance that were knocked away by the UMass keeper.
Eventually in the second overtime, UMass had a shot that was mishit but took a funny hop and found an open player in front of the cage. She knocked it home for the game-winner.
The Huskies enter the final week of the regular season with their final BIG EAST match on the road at Temple on Friday, October 29 at 12 p.m. The Huskies will finish the regular season at home against Delaware on Sunday, October 31 at 12 p.m.
