PISA, Italy – Former UConn All-American Roisin Upton (2012-15) helped the Ireland women's field hockey team qualify for the 2022 World Cup after defeating Wales on Sunday afternoon.
It is the second successive World Cup bid for the Green Army after competing in the European Championships and the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
This will be the 15th edition of the Women's FIH Hockey World Cup and will be held in Terrasa Spain and Amstelveen, Netherlands from July 1-17, 2022.
During her time at UConn, Upton helped the Huskies win national championships in 2013 and 2014 - the third and fourth in program history (also 1981, 1985 and 2017). The defender was also tabbed a two-time All-American (2013 and 2014) and was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year those same years.
