Huskies Face Butler in BIG EAST Championship Quarterfinals

STORRS, Conn. – The sixth-seeded UConn women's soccer team (9-7-1, 5-4-1 BIG EAST) begins 2021 BIG EAST Women's Soccer Championship play at No. 3 seed Butler (14-3-1, 7-2-1) Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Huskies earned a spot in the tournament with a 1-0 upset win over No. 21 Georgetown on Thursday. Sophomore Lucy Cappadona scored the game winner off an assist from sophomore Jaydah Bedoya in the 58th minute.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Mahoney is the reigning BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week. The Georgetown win was her third shutout of the season.
At the end of the regular season, Bedoya is leading the Huskies with six goals and 16 points.
UConn is competing in its league-leading 21st BIG EAST Championship.
Butler finished the regular season with a 3-1 win over Creighton on Thursday. Katie Soderstrom leads the Bulldogs with 11 goals and 29 points. Emma Martin has started 17 of 18 games and holds a 0.63 goals-against average and a .820 save percentage.
The Huskies played at Butler on Oct. 3, when the Bulldogs notched a 3-0 win.
The BIG EAST Championship semifinals and final game will be played at Xavier in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Nov. 4 and 7, respectively.
