Huskies Set to Face Nationally Ranked Boston College and Providence

UConn is back at home at the XL Center for the first time since October 8 when they host No. 16 ranked Boston College on Friday night. The Huskies will close out the weekend with a trip to No. 12 ranked Providence on Saturday night.
The Huskies enter the weekend having won four-straight and are coming off a weekend Hockey East sweep last weekend at Maine. UConn posted a 4-3 win on Friday and came back on Saturday for a 3-2 overtime win over the Black Bears. The Huskies are 4-1-0, their best-ever Hockey East start, and are tied for second in the standings with 10 points.
At 6-3-0, UConn is off to their best start to a season since 1998-99 (6-2-1). Their just completed seven-game road swing (5-2-0) was the third time under head coach Mike Cavanaugh they had a road trip that long (2014-15/1-4-2; 2015-16/3-3-1).
This will be the first of three match-ups against BC this season with road games in the second half of the season on January 8 and February 11. The Eagles lead the all-time series 13-3-2. UConn is 2-5-0 against BC at the XL Center with their last win coming on Feb. 2, 2018 (5-3). The Huskies went 1-2-1 against BC last season with a shoot-out win.
The Huskies trail the all-time series with Providence, 13-4-3. UConn is 2-7-1 all-time at Schneider Arena. The Huskies and Friars split their four meetings last season with Providence ending UConn's season in the Hockey East quarterfinals with 6-1 win in Storrs.
Junior Harrison Rees was named the Hockey East Defender of the Week on Monday after scoring twice, including the overtime game-winner, to help the Huskies beat Maine and get a weekend sweep. It was his second career two-goal game and ended a 17-game stretch without a goal.
Sophomore Ryan Tverberg had three goals and an assist in the Maine sweep and is currently riding a four-game point streak. On the season he has seven goals and six assists to lead the Huskies with 13 points. His 13 points through nine games marks the best offensive start by a Husky since Maxim Letunov scored 13 points (6g/7a) in nine games to start 2015-16.
Tverberg is second in Hockey East in scoring and averages a league-best 1.44 points per game. He is also second in goals scored.
Senior Jachym Kondelik, playing in his 100th career game on Friday, has registered a point in eight of the nine games this season and has 10 points on three goals and seven assists. He is tied for fourth in scoring in Hockey East and he is a team-best +10 for the season. He is currently on a four-game point streak.
Kondelik is coming off his third-straight season of 20-plus points, finishing with four goals and a team-best 18 assists last year. He is the Huskies leading active career point leader at 81 points (19g/62a).
UConn grad student goaltender Darion Hanson transferred in this season from Union and has started all nine games. On the season, he owns a 2.30 goals against average and a .921 save percentage He has played the third most minutes in Hockey East and ranks sixth in goals against and fifth in save percentage.
Graduate student Jarrod Gourley, a transfer in from Arizona State this season, will play in his 100th career game on Friday night.
