Dembrowski & Sprecher Named to NFHCA Senior Team

BROCKPORT, N.Y. - UConn seniors Jessica Dembrowski and Cheyenne Sprecher ere named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association's 2021 Division I Senior Team, as announced Monday. UConn was one of just six schools to earn multiple representatives on the 38-player team.
Dembrowski is the all-time leader in UConn history with 105 career games played and closes out her career as a two-time All-BIG EAST performer and earned NFHCA All-American accolades in the spring of 2021. She finishes her time in Storrs with 30 goals and 28 assists. She will go in the record books as a National Champion after playing all 23 games as a freshman during the Huskies undefeated 23-0 season in 2017.Â
Sprecher earns honors after leading the BIG EAST with 117 saves in 2021. The four-time All-BIG EAST standout also earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors. With 82 games of experience, Sprecher has a 1.09 goals against average and 61 career wins. The Palmyra, Pa. native still has one year of eligibilty remaining.Â
All 10 Division I conferences and five NCAA regions that sponsor field hockey are represented on the list of 2021 honorees. The selected student-athletes were nominated by their NFHCA member coach and were chosen based on their career accomplishments.
The members of the 2021 Division I Senior Team were initially announced during a live video presentation featuring member coaches on Monday afternoon. In lieu of the traditional coach-led trophy presentation at the NFHCA Senior Game, which was cancelled due to limitations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, coaches were given the opportunity to announce the name of their Senior Team honoree(s).
