No. 2 UConn, No. 1 South Carolina to Face Off in Battle 4 Atlantis Championship

PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas – The No. 2 UConn women's basketball team (3-0) faces No. 1 South Carolina (5-0) in the Battle 4 Atlantis championship game Monday at noon. The game will be aired on ESPN and the UConn Sports Network.
UConn gutted out a 60-53 win over No. 23 USF Sunday. Sophomore Paige Bueckers led UConn with 21 points and added seven assists. Freshman Azzi Fudd broke out for 18 points on six 3-pointers.
UConn is 22-3 all-time in No. 1 vs. No. 2 ranked matchups. The Huskies are 7-1 all-time as the second-ranked team.
UConn is 9-1 all-time vs. South Carolina. In a 1 vs. 2 matchup last season, UConn picked up a 63-59 overtime win in Storrs on Feb. 8. Bueckers scored 31 points vs. the Gamecocks and added six steals, four rebounds and five assists. This will be the first of at least two meetings between the Huskies and Gamecocks this season. UConn travels to Columbia, S.C., on Jan. 27, 2022.
Top-ranked South Carolina beat No. 9 Oregon, 59-34, Sunday afternoon. This season, Aliyah Boston leads the Gamecocks with 13.4 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Destanni Henderson is averaging 13.2 points and 5.4 assists per game and is shooting 63.2 percent from 3-point range. Head coach Dawn Staley is in her 14th season at the helm at South Carolina.
