ARLINGTON, Texas - Continuing to make a name for herself at the national level, senior Sydney Watson of the UConn women's lacrosse team competed with the U.S. National Team this past week at the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) President's Cup.
Watson was one of 34 players invited, and one of 12 active collegiate players on the roster.
The team held three training sessions before holding an open Blue-White exhibition game in front of over 3,000 fans at the Harold Patterson Sports Center on Saturday night.
The U.S. team is in training for the 2022 World Lacrosse Women's World Championship, which will be held from June 29 through July 9 at Towson University. This will mark the first time that the U.S. has hosted the world championship since 2005, and the U.S. will be aiming for its fourth straight world title after winning in 2009, 2013 and 2017. The upcoming championship was originally scheduled for 2021, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A record 30 nations are expected to compete in 2022.
Additionally, the U.S. players served as guest coaches for club teams during the IWLCA President's Cup, one of the nation's largest and most prestigious recruiting events that features more than 350 teams competing.
