NEW YORK - Coming off a historic regular season, three members of the UConn women's volleyball team were recognized on the All-BIG EAST Team, the conference announced Wednesday.
Graduate student McKayla Wuensch highlighted the trio as she was named the program's first BIG EAST Setter of the Year, while seniors Caylee Parker and Kennadie Jake-Turner joined Wuensch on the All-BIG EAST Team. The three all-conference are the most UConn has had since 1998 and match the program record for most all-conference selections in a season.
Wuensch, the first BIG EAST Setter of the Year since 2002 as the award was reinstated this season, is additionally the first Husky to earn a major conference award since Annie Luhrsen was tabbed the BIG EAST Rookie of the Year in 2008. Making an immediate impact after arriving in Storrs in the fall, Wuensch ranks second in the conference in assists per set (9.59), and elevated her level of play to 10.20 assists per set in conference games. She has recorded at least 30 assists 21-of-27 matches played and has provided at least 30 assists in 14-of-15 BIG EAST contests.
Parker earned her second straight unanimous All-BIG EAST selection after ranking fourth among league leaders in kills per set (3.41) and posted double-digit kills 22 times this season. A force from the outside, the senior has five straight games of double-digit kills and has 10 double-doubles on the season.Â
Jake-Turner earned her first career postseason recognition after finishing as the BIG EAST leader in hitting percentage (.349) and leads the Huskies in blocks per set (1.05). The senior owns double-digit kills in 15 games, and has 113 blocks compared to just 14 blocking errors.
UConn will open up its postseason run on Friday, Nov. 26 in the BIG EAST Championship semifinal round against Marquette at 1:30 p.m. EST.
