Volleyball Returns to Gampel to Host North Florida in NIVC Quarterfinals

STORRS, Conn. - With a trip to the NIVC Final Four in reach, the UConn women's volleyball team will continue its historic postseason run as it welcomes North Florida to Gampel Pavilion on Wednesday, Dec. 8 for a quarterfinal round matchup at 7 p.m.
Wednesday's game will mark the first time the Huskies have hosted a postseason match at Gampel Pavilion.Â
Making its first appearance in the NIVC since 1994 this past weekend, UConn swept North Carolina A&T in its first round matchup on Saturday before taking a five-set comeback at Boston College on Sunday.
Senior Caylee Parker led the Huskies in kills in each contest and averaged 3.75 for the weekend. Sophomore Taylor Pannell was a force on both sides of the net, leading the team in blocks (6) and followed Parker with 2.88 kills per set.
Parker added to her list of accolades as was named an AVCA East Coast All-Region Honorable Mention on Tuesday. Parker is the first Husky to be named an AVCA All-Region Honorable Mention since 2003, and the third AVCA All-Region honoree in program history.
SCOUTING NORTH FLORIDA
North Florida is also writing history this season as its 25 wins are the most as a DI program, while its 12 ASUN victories are also its most in program history. Furthermore, the Ospreys made back-to-back ASUN Championship semifinals for the first time, reached their highest RPI ranking at No. 49 earlier this season, and are making their first-ever appearance in the NIVC.
Rocio Moro, one of two players in ASUN history to be a two-time ASUN Defensive Player of the Year, leads the conference in both digs per set (4.76) and digs (567). Dariana Hollingsworth-Santana leads the Osprey in kills per set (3.13) and ranks third in digs per set (2.29). Bre Walp is averaging a team-best 1.22 block per set and adds in 1.85 kills per set on the attack.
THE SERIES
Wednesday will be the first matchup between the two schools.
UP NEXT
The winner of Wednesday's contest will advance to the NIVC Final Four and play Valparaiso.
