Top Performances Highlight Husky Field Event Challenge

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn track & field program hosted the Husky Field Event Challenge at the Hugh S. Greer Field House on campus Saturday afternoon with the Huskies competing with athletes from Villanova and Northeastern.
The Huskies put together some top-performances in hopes of earning a qualifying spot for the NCAA Indoor Championship.
Senior Taylor Woods (Marlboro, Md.) turned in a leap of 6.33 meters (20'9.25") to win the long jump on Saturday to move into 16th on the national rankings list. On the men's side, senior Safir Scott (Greenwich, Conn.) won the event with a jump of 7.54 meters (24'9.00") to pull into 30th in the nation.
Senior Jordan Torney (Toms River, N.J.) is currently 22nd in the nation in the heptathlon, sitting on the bubble for NCAA qualifying. Torney won the UConn Multi-Event Challenge a week ago piling up 5,481 points.
A pair of Huskies won the men's and women's pole vault. For the men, sophomore Travis Snyder (Saco, Maine) posted a height of 5.10 meters (16'8.75"), ranking 46th in the nation. On the women's side, junior Emma Chee (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) cleared a height of 3.80 meters (12'5.50").
Seniors Todd Stueber (Toms River, N.J.) and Matthew Brady (Biddeford, Maine) went one-two in the shotput. Stueber won the event and is 51st in the nation with a throw of 17.90 meters (58'8.75"). Brady turned in a throw of 16.94 meters (55'3.00")
In the weight throw, Chanell Botsis (Coquitlam, British Columbia) was the winner with a throw of19.02 meters (62'5.00"), putting her 62nd nationally. On the men's side, junior Christopher Keegan (West Hartford, Conn.) won the event with a toss of 18.63 meters (61'1.50").
In the high jump, senior Daniel Claxton (Nesconset, N.Y.) won the event with a height of 2.05 meters (6'8.75"). In the triple jump, senior Devon McShane (Madison, Conn.) posted a leap of 12.20 meters (40'00.5")
The event featured just the indoor field events and the men's and women's 800 meters as well. In the men's race, freshman Mahamed Sharif (Westbrook, Maine) won with a time of 1:52.57.
