- UConn will hit the road up to Boston on Friday night to take on the No. 14 nationally ranked Northeastern Huskies. This will be the first meeting between the two schools this season.
- The Huskies split their season-series with NU last year, losing at home, 5-2, in the XL Center and winning 3-2 in overtime on the road in Boston. After losing their first 10 match-ups with Northeastern, UConn is 4-2-0 in their last six meetings with the Huskies.
- UConn is coming off their first six-point weekend sweep after beating Merrimack 6-1 on the road and 6-2 at home last week. The Huskies finished up the month of January with a 5-2-1 record. UConn enters the weekend in fourth place in the Hockey East standings with 26 points over 15 games played. Northeastern is in fifth place with 21 points in 12 games played.
- Last weekend's sweep delivered head coach Mike Cavanaugh his 100th career victory. He is in his eighth season and is the program's fourth head coach.
- It was announced this week that junior forward Jonny Evans has been named a candidate for the 2021 Hobey Baker Award, given annually to college hockey's top player. Fan-voting online is now open thru March 7 at HobeyBaker.com/vote.
- Evans was named the Hockey East Player of the Week for the second time this season after a six-point weekend against Merrimack. In Friday's at Merrimack, Evans picked-up a pair of assists and followed that up on Saturday by scoring four-straight goals to help sweep the Warriors. Evans recorded his third career hat-trick and became the first Husky in the Division I era (1998-present) to score four or more goals.
- He was also the runner-up for Hockey East Player of the Month in January and on the season, Evans leads all goal scorers in Hockey East with 11 to also rank fourth nationally. He is second in Hockey East in scoring with 20 points coming on 11 goals and nine assists, averaging 1.33 points per game.
- Junior goaltender Tomas Vomacka was named to the 2021 Mike Richter Award "Watch List" released by the Hockey Commissioners Association (HCA). This year's list consists of 35 goalies from across college hockey. The Mike Richter Award is given annually to the top goalie in men's NCAA Division I hockey since 2014.
- Vomacka has played in all 15 games and has played the most minutes of any goalie in Hockey East this season and has equally made the most saves with 434 stops. He owns a .916 save percentage and a 2.63 goals against average and has won seven games with a shutout.
- Freshman Hudson Schandor became the third Husky this season to win the Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week award. Schandor posted four points last weekend, scoring the game-winner in Friday's road win and picking-up a season-high three assists on Saturday. On the season, Schandor is fifth on the team in scoring with nine points on four goals and five assists, tops among the team's rookies.
- Rookie defenseman John Spetz was the runner-up for Hockey East Rookie of the Month in January. Spetz had seven points in January on two goals and five assists. He also had 24 blocked shots during the month. On the season, he is tied for 10th in the league in rookie scoring (3g/5a) and is eighth among all the league's defensemen in scoring. His 37 blocked shots leads Hockey East.
- Freshman Artem Shlaine has the longest point streak of any Husky heading into the weekend at five games, collecting six assists during that stretch.
- Junior Jachym Kondelik has 14 assists on the year and is tied for the lead in Hockey East in assists and averaging 0.93 assists per game.
- The UConn power play opened the season just 3-for-42 (.071) through the season's first nine games but has scored a goal in six of the last seven games (12-32/.375). Junior Carter Turnbull is second in Hockey East with four power play goals and tied for third in power play points with seven (4g/3a).
- With the addition of Ryan Tverberg in the second semester, the Husky lineup will feature nine NHL draft picks in 2020-21, a new program-high. That number climbed with the 2020 NHL Draft this fall as sophomore Yan Kuznetsov (Calgary/2nd Rd) and freshmen Artem Shlaine (New Jersey/5th Rd), Nick Capone (Tampa Bay/6th Rd) and Tverberg (Toronto/7th Rd) heard their names called.
