STORRS, Conn. - UConn junior Jonny Evans (North Delta, British Columbia) is the first Husky in program history to be named a finalist for the Hockey East Player of the Year Award. In addition, for the second-straight year, head coach Mike Cavanaugh has been named a finalist for the Bob Kullen Award for Coach of the Year.
Evans put together one of the best seasons by a Husky since UConn joined the conference in 2014-15. In 22 games during the regular season, he led the conference in scoring with 28 points and also led the league with 14 goals. He was the winner of the PNC Bank Three Stars award as well as being the league's scoring champion and also became the first UConn player to be named a Hockey East First All-Star.
Cavanaugh guided UConn to their highest ever finish in the conference at 10-10-2, good for fourth place in the final standings. He also led the Huskies this season to the program's first-ever national ranking in the national polls.
