Top-seeded Huskies to Open NCAA Tournament Vs. High Point

SAN ANTONIO – The top-seeded and top-ranked UConn women's basketball team (24-1) begins NCAA Tournament play vs. 16th-seeded High Point (22-6) in the First Round on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET in the Alamodome. The game will air on ESPN and 97-9 ESPN.
UConn makes its 32nd straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament this season. The Huskies were selected as a No. 1 seed for the 22nd time in program history. UConn holds a 101-11 record as a top seed. UConn is 121-20 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, which is the winningest record in the sport.
The Huskies are 27-2 all-time in the NCAA First Round. UConn hasn't dropped a First Round game since 1993.
Only three players on the roster have NCAA Tournament experience: juniors Olivia Nelson-Ododa, Christyn Williams and Evina Westbrook. This is Westbrook's first tournament at UConn.
UConn will be without head coach Geno Auriemma until March 24 after he tested positive for COVID-19 on March 14. Associate head coach Chris Dailey will head UConn and has gone 10-0 in previous Auriemma absences.
This is the first-ever meeting between the Huskies and Panthers. High Point is making its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. High Point won its first Big South Tournament to earn a bid to NCAAs. Skyler Curran was named the Big South Player of the Year and leads the Panthers with 17.9 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.
