Lynch Scores Twice in Win over Villanova

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's soccer team (6-2-1, 4-2-1 BE) defeated the Villanova Wildcats (2-7-2, 1-4-2 BE) by a score of 3-0 on Thursday afternoon at Morrone Stadium.
How it Happened
The Huskies got off to a flying start, dominating possession early and creating a few good chances. UConn outshot Villanova 12-1 in the first half with a 5-0 advantage in shots on goal. Junior Isabelle Lynch broke the deadlock in the 37th minute with a long range shot that hit the crossbar and went in. Lynch's second of the season gave UConn a 1-0 lead at the break.
In the 63rd minute, freshman Jada Konte's partial break away attempt was stopped, but redshirt junior Kess Elmore was able to collect the rebound and give UConn a 2-0 lead. In the 77th minute, UConn went up 3-0 as Isabelle Lynch converted a header off of a free kick from sophomore Jacqueline Harnett. The Huskies outshot Villanova 20-1 with an 10-0 advantage in shots on goal.
Redshirt senior goalkeeper Randi Palacios had a quiet afternoon, playing just under 70 minutes and seeing no shots on target, a testament to the UConn defense. Freshman goalkeeper Kaitlyn Mahoney came in for Palacios and finished the game for the Huskies. Mahoney faced no shots in just over 20 minutes of action.
