INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The UConn women's lacrosse team tied the school record for goals in a game in a 22-11 BIG EAST win at Butler University Friday afternoon on the road. The Huskies improve to 3-0 in the league and 7-2 overall with the win.
The Huskies match the program's best-ever mark of 22 goals scored, set previously against Butler back in 2018 in a 22-5 win.
UConn sophomore Kate Shaffer (West Hartford, Conn.) set a new career-high scoring five goals and adding on an assist to lead the Huskies. Senior Stephanie Palmucci (Herndon, Va.) and freshman Lauren Barry (Wilbraham, Mass.) scored three goals apiece.
Junior Lia LaPrise (Windsor, Conn.) finished with a five-point day, scoring twice and assisting on three others. Senior Sydney Watson (Prince Fredrick, Md.) scored a pair with an assist and won 10 draw controls, her fourth game this season with double digit draw wins.
The Huskies offense took 18 shots in the first half and scored 16 goals with six players putting multiple goals on the board in the first 30 minutes. Butler took early 2-1 and 3-2 leads just under five minutes in but the Huskies would dominate the rest of the first half. UConn would put together a 4-0 run and a 5-0 run on the way to building a 16-6 lead with 1:04 on the clock.
UConn tacked on six more in the second half as freshman Susan LaFountain (Rochester, N.Y.) recorded her first career goal. In the final stats, UConn finished the day with 25 shots and 22 goals and dominated in the draw circle, 24-10. The 24 draw controls set another UConn school record, eclipsing the previous mark of 23 set at New Hampshire in 2004 and at Butler in 2018.
In goal, junior Landyn White (Alpharetta, Ga.) and senior Annie Carroll (Fallsington, Pa.) each took a half in cage. Carroll made five saves in the second half.
The Huskies and Bulldogs will close out their weekend series on Sunday afternoon at 12 noon.
