Volleyball Beats Seton Hall in Straight Sets

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's volleyball team (3-6, 3-4 BE) defeated the Seton Hall Pirates (4-6, 2-5 BE) by a score of 3-0 on Friday night.
How it Happened
The Huskies jumped out to an early 9-3 lead in set one, forcing Seton Hall into a timeout. Out of the break, UConn continued to roll on both sides of the ball, extending the lead to 12-4. The Pirates would cut into the lead, but UConn held on to take the first set 25-15.
In the second set, the Huskies and Pirates alternated points with UConn holding a slim 13-12 advantage at the midway point of the set. Seton Hall would call timeout late in the set trailing 23-19. Out of the break, the Pirates went on a 3-0 run, forcing UConn to call timeout leading 23-22. The Huskies held on to take a 2-0 match with a 25-22 victory in set two.
The third set saw UConn jump out to a 5-1 lead before the Pirates fought back with a 7-0 run to take an 8-5 lead. The Huskies were forced to call timeout trailing 11-6, looking for a response. That response would come in the form of an 8-5 UConn run that forced Seton Hall into a timeout with a slim 16-14 lead. Following the break, Seton Hall led 20-18 before a dramatic end the third set. Junior Kennadie Jake-Turner's kill put the Huskies up 23-22, forcing Seton Hall to call a timeout. UConn would hold on to take the set 25-23 and the match 3-0.
Leading the Pack
Sophomore Madi Whitmire recorded her first double-double of the season with 15 assists and 11 digs. Fellow sophomore Jasmine Davis had a big night, tallying 10 kills, six digs and two service aces. Junior Caylee Parker recorded her fourth double-double of the season, grabbing 11 kills and 10 digs.
Redshirt junior Courtney Morris led the team with 21 assists and added three blocks. Kennadie Jake-Turner hit at a .692 clip on the night, recording nine kills and added three service aces, three digs, and three blocks.

The Huskies will face Seton Hall in the regular season finale on Saturday night. Following the match, UConn will celebrate its senior with a special senior day ceremony. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:00pm at Gampel Pavilion.
