Huskies Host Northeast Invitational on Senior Day

STORRS, Conn. โ The UConn track & field teams will host their final home meet this weekend with the UConn Northeast Challenge set for Friday and Saturday, April 23 and 24.ย The program will also celebrate their "Senior Day" this weekend, honoring the graduating seniors from each team.
The Huskies welcome Brown, Northeastern, Rhode Island and Southern Connecticut State University to the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex for an unscored team meet.ย The men will compete on Friday with the women closing the weekend on Saturday.ย Live results for each day are available HERE.
"We are looking forward to another opportunity to compete on our home turf and it will be great because we will be able to recognize our graduating seniors," stated associate head coach Rich Miller. ย
"This will weekend will be a little different," said Miller.ย "It's going to be a non-team scoring meet so our focus will really be on individuals going out and continuing to develop.ย This is going to be one of our last chances to start getting ready as we head towards the BIG EAST championships next month."
For the fourth-straight week, the UConn men sit atop the USTFCCA Northeast Regional rankings heading into this weekend's competition.ย On the women's side, UConn is in the top-spot for the second-straight week.
The Huskies are coming off last weekend's split squad competitions at Navy and Virginia.ย The UConn distance runners got a chance to shine last weekend as The Huskies had their top-three compete in a national caliber field in the 5,000 meters and all three set new PR's on the night at UVA.ย Seniorย Mia Nahomย (New Milford, Conn.) was 11th overall and posted a new PR time of 16:07.78.ย Classmateย Danielle Jordanย (Clifton Park, N.Y.) was right there with her in 13th with a new PR time of 16:08.15. Juniorย Randi Burrย (Westerly, R.I.) set a big PR as well with a time of 16:30.45.ย All three rank in the top-10 in the BIG EAST
At Navy, Seniorย Kelly Wardย (Oxford, Conn.) set a new PR in the heptathlon, finishing second overall with a total of 4,777 points.ย She is at the top of the BIG EAST in the rankings.ย Sophomoreย Patricia Mroczkowskiย (Berlin, Conn.) posted a win in the high jump and on Saturday, she had her best jump this spring at 1.73 meters and ranks at the top of the BIG EAST.
"I feel like both teams have been taking steps got continue getting better.ย This weekend we want to continue to focus on the fundamentals.ย We have done a good job returning to competition, and improving our execution and performance and we need to continue to building and developing as a team."
