UConn Women Continue to Build with Successful Senior Day

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's track and field program held their final home meet of the 2021 spring season on Saturday afternoon, facing Brown, Northeastern, URI and SCSU in the UConn Northeast Invitational on Senior Day. The Huskies had plenty of strong performances and PRs during Saturday's unscored team meet.
"I felt like yesterday, a number of our women stepped up today and it was great to see us take steps forward both individually and collectively," stated associate head coach Rich Miller. "Individually, we saw some life time best and with some other women were they really were improving on a specific aspect of their competition that is showed up in. They are really taking some big steps forward both in their fundamentals and their execution. I was really excited to see that."
In addition to Saturday's action on the track, the Huskies had a chance to honor their graduating seniors during the meet. The UConn coaching staff honored seniors Allie Alsup (Durham, Conn.), Laurel Bailey (Shelton, Conn.), Chanell Botsis (Coquitlam, British Columbia), Danielle Jordan (Clifton Park, N.Y.), Brianna O'Brien (Old Westbury, N.Y.), Amy Piccolo (Walpole, Mass.), Julia Silverman (West Hartford, Conn.), Rachel Vick (Woolwich, N.J.) and Taylor Woods (Marlboro, Md.) in their final home competition at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
"It was great to see the seniors that competed, I thought had a great day. It was really a highlight to a special day," commented Miller.
On the track…
- Junior Shanelle Colmon (East Brunswick, N.J.) had a PR setting performance in the 400 meters on Saturday, winning the event in a time of 54.71 seconds. It was her second time this spring setting a new PR in the event.
- Colmon was a double winner by taking the 200 meters later in the meet setting another new PR in the process. Colmon pulled away from the field and clocked a 23.75 seconds to cross the line first.
- Senior Allie Alsup (Durham, Conn.) won the 800 meters and did so with a new PR in the event, clocking in at 2:12.32.
- Junior Celia Chacko (Windsor, Conn.) won the 1,500 with a time of 4:42.18.
- Fresman Brianna Davis (Bay Shore, N.Y.) took second in the 100-meter dash posting her fastest time this spring at 11.92 seconds.
- Freshman Felicia Quainoo (Metuchen, N.J.) was third in the 100-meter hurdles, posting a time of 14.43 seconds.
In the field…
- Sophomore Patricia Mroczkowski (Berlin, Conn.) remained unbeaten in the high jump this spring, winning on Saturday with a height of 1.71 meters. Freshman Taylor Pannell (Middletown, N.Y.) was second with a height of 1.66 meters.
- Senior Taylor Woods (Marlboro, Md.) posted her best jump of the spring on Saturday to win the long jump. Woods won the event with a leap of 6.25 meters.
- Junior Emma Chee (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) won the pole vault for the fourth time in five meets this spring. Chee posted a height of 3.65 meters.
- Sophomore Julia Moraitis (Wilbraham, Mass.) set a new PR in the javelin, finishing second with a throw of 44.14 meters.
- Senior Chanell Botsis (Coquitlam, British Columbia) took second in the hammer throw with a throw of 59.80 meters. Junior Mikyla Rodgers (South Huntington, N.Y.) was third with a throw of 57.21 meters.
