BSB Returns From Pause Against Xavier

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The UConn baseball team (16-12, 2-0 BIG EAST) returns from a 14-day pause to play its first BIG EAST road series of the season against the Xavier Musketeers at Hayden Field.Â
The series marks the first between the two programs with the only previous meeting coming in 2012 in Charleston, S.C. with the Huskies winning 7-2 behind a stellar start from UConn starter Brian Ward.

The Musketeers were picked fifth in the preseason BIG EAST poll and the Musketeers currently sit in third place with a 5-2 conference record after winning a road series at St. John's (2-1) and home series vs. Butler (3-1).
Overall, Xavier is 14-15 with a road series win at Texas A&M to open the 2021 season. The Musketeers have won eight of its last 10 games.
Prior to the pause, the Huskies had won seven in a row and 10 of its last 12 ballgames. UConn ended its first home stand of the season with a 10-1 record that featured series wins against Rhode Island (2-1), UMass (3-0) and Georgetown (2-0)Â
Wink Moving Up All-Time Lists.. Fifth-year senior Chris Winkel is moving up the all-time lists in games played, atbats and hits. The outfielder/ first baseman has played 218 career games which ranks 14th among current active players in Division I. Among UConn players, Winkel is tied for seventh all-time in games played. His 718 career at-bats ranks 11th in program history. The Orange, Conn. native currently has 186 hits and is 14 hits away from becoming the 21st Husky to record 200 hits in a career.
Austin Rebounding From Injury.. Since getting injured against Texas Tech, starting pitcher Austin Peterson has been a big boost to the UConn starting rotation. The right-hander is 2-0 with a 0.64 ERA. In four starts, he has thrown 26.0 innings, allowed two earned runs and struck out 27. Opponents are hitting just .122 against him.
