Cappadona Lifts Huskies Past Seton Hall

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The UConn women's soccer team (8-2-1, 6-2-1 BE) defeated the Seton Hall Pirates (2-8, 1-8 BE) on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Lucy Cappadona scored the extra time winner for the Huskies.
How it Happened
The Pirates got on the board early in the first half, taking a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute and would take that lead into halftime. Seton Hall held a shot advantage of 10-5 and 5-1 in shots on goal. Redshirt senior goalkeeper Randi Palacios made four first half saves. Lucy Cappadona registered the only shot on goal for the Huskies in the opening 45 minutes.
In the second half, the Huskies came out strong and applied pressure on the Seton Hall goal. Jessica Mazo's third goal of the season in 56th minute tied the game for UConn. Mazo collected a rebound and her shot went bar down for the equalizing goal. The game would go to extra time with the teams tied 1-1.
After a scoreless first half of extra time, Lucy Cappadona scores her third of the season in the 108th minute off a pass from senior Sophia Danyko-Kulchycky to win the game for the Huskies.
UConn finished the game with a 25-13 shot advantage and the advantage in shots on goal at 10-6. Palacios made five saves in Saturday's win.
Up Next
The Huskies close out the regular season at home against Georgetown on Thursday, April 8th. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00pm at Morrone Stadium.
