PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. - The UConn baseball team (13-15, 7-3 BIG EAST) head back on the road to take on Villanova in a three-game series at Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth Meeting.
The series has been moved to three games because the Wildcats have not had enough healthy players to play any four-game series in the BIG EAST this season.Â
Villanova (18-11, 6-9 BIG EAST) have won four in a row and have one of the best starting pitchers in the conference with Gordon Graceffo leading the conference with a 1.32 ERA. The Wildcats offense ranks second to last in the league with a .223 average and 127 runs scored.
The Huskies are currently in third place in the BIG EAST with their .700 win percentage (7-3) and need to play four more games to be eligible for the BIG EAST Championship in two weeks. The BIG EAST Championship consists of the top four teams, in a double elimination format with the champion receiving the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
UConn is coming off a road series win at St. John's where the Huskies produced two come back victories when trailing entering the eighth inning. Kyler Fedko provided a go-ahead two-run double on Friday and added two key insurance runs in the 10th inning on Sunday with a two-run single.
Pat Gallagher shined for the Huskies in game three of the series with a career-high seven shutouts innings.Â
The Huskies are 37-24 all-time against Villanova and face off for the first time since the Huskies beat the Wildcats, 7-6, at Villanova Ballpark in 2014.Â
The UConn starting rotation will feature Austin Peterson on Friday, Ben Casparius on Saturday and Gallagher in the series finale.
All three games will have live audio on MIXLRÂ and a paid video streams Nova Nation All Access.
